What is PokerTracker

PokerTracker™ is the world's first and largest poker tracking and analysis software to improve your poker game. It is the single most important tool that every online poker player must have to be successful. PokerTracker imports the hand histories that poker sites write to your computer. It then parses the hands and stores statistics/information about the hands into a local database so that you can look at every possible angle of both your and your opponents' poker game.

PokerTracker utilizes hand histories to record every move we make at a poker table, and organizes the data so it can be easily analyzed to evaluate play. The hand histories are either captured via files stored on your hard drive, or by data gathered via email

PokerTracker performs two separate and equally useful functions. It allows you to evaluate your own play, and permits you to evaluate the play of your opponents

Start the PokerTracker software package and import your hand histories for your particular poker site. The method for importing hand histories can differ depending on what site you use.

You can download Poker Tracker from here.  http://www.pokertracker.com

Click the Configure button and set the path to your Poker room Hand History directory. Be sure to add the Hand History directories for all (poker room) skins you use. Then click OK

This will allow you to import hand histories as they occur. Once your hand histories have been imported, click on the “Ring Game” button to bring up the statistics captured for your ring game play

You might want to evaluate your game as a whole, so you would want to review all of your hand histories. If he wanted to evaluate a single session or a group of sessions, you would want to evaluate a range of dates.

These are all possible by using the "Preferences" tab, and selecting "Specific Date" or "Since a Date" or "Between Dates

So you have selected the sessions you wish to evaluate, you can pick the specific hands that most require evaluation. Simple select the "Game Notes" tab and sorting the table by the "Net" column header in descending order, you will now have a list of hands where the most money was won or the most money was lost

Evaluating your mistakes in individual hands can help you notice patterns of incorrect play that you can

You can also then replay the losing and winning hands using the "Playback This Hand" .Double click the hand you want to see to bring up the hand history, and then click on the "Playback this hand" button to use the built in animation to view the hand “as it happened.”

Especially helpful in the "Playback This Hand" feature is the "Win%" function and pre flop selection and filters section (where you can select specific hands where you limped into hands, called raises or played from the blinds)

Individual starting hands are displayed in the "General Info" tab. A player can click on the "Net" or "BB/hand" column heading to sort the table and see what hands he most often loses money with, or loses the most money with.

You can also evaluate how you play different hands from different positions by utilizing the "Positions Stats" tab

To evaluate how you play in each position in relation to the dealer button, the most important statistic in PokerTracker to look at is VP$IP( Voluntarily Put Money Into the Pot)

Another way PokerTracker helps you is by giving him information on the play of his opponents. You can gather that information on his opponents by collecting data on them from hand you played against them

To do this you need to use the Auto Rate" function

To use the "Auto Rate" function, you first must set up rules for evaluating players. We need to know if a player is loose or tight, and we need to know if that same player is passive or aggressive.

Using these rules, we can set up the "Auto Rate" feature in PokerTracker. Close all statistics windows and click on "Utilities" then "Auto Rate Players" in the menu bar
